Sending messages now and then

My uncle used to work in a telegraph and telephone company in the late 70’s to early 80’s. I had a vivid recollection of him sorting out pieces of paper with short messages on it and insert them in plastic window envelopes. Their branch office was small and I remember they had this peculiar looking manual typewriter and another electric typewriter.

Holiday season was the busiest period to him and his co-workers. Customers would flock to their office and have their Christmas or love messages sent to their loved ones using inspiring selection of cards.

I’m not so sure if sending flowers through a singing messenger was part of their company’s services then, but they do send lovely roses locally especially during Valentine’s Day. Nowadays, you can record music and messages using virus ti to enhance the sound and send them via the internet.

Today, the company offers various services, apart from providing long distance calls both domestic and international; they also send native specialties from Manila, Cebu and Mindanao all year round.

My uncle spent a good part of his life in that company until he stopped working in mid-80s.

Unforgettable Christmases

I can share three Christmases that are truly meaningful for my family. The first one was our first Christmas together as husband and wife. We celebrate it with his family. It was the first time that I met Nanay and Tatay. They came all the way from General Santos City to spend the Yuletide Season with us and their two other sons and their respective families here in Manila. The old folks are warm in welcoming me as their daughter in law. My hubby was the last to marry in their family.

The other two equally memorable Christmases we had were actually the ones experienced by our children. Naomi was nine-month-old when she experienced her first Yuletide season in 1997. Khalil was five-month-old when he wore a Santa hat for the first time in 1999. As a couple, we were celebrating our 20th Christmas this year. We hope to spend the next 100 Christmases together, just kidding.

Meantime, for those who love to play karaoke songs on Christmas eve, the best item that you can use to enjoy the sound is an avalon preamp or you can use speakers that produce quality sound for the occasion.

I would like to grab this opportunity to greet each and every friends and followers I have for this site, a Blessed Christmas and Prosperous New Year!

It will be a simple Christmas eve celebration

Christmas eve observance this year will be a lot different from the previous ones that we had. I just underwent a major operation and movement is limited for a few more days. So hubby and I decided to just order or take out food for Christmas eve. Ordering will be a lot easier but knowing the traffic and the volume of those who wished to order online, I think it would be best to just take out. We just have to decide whether it would pizza or spaghetti this time.

Meantime, if you are still checking on gift ideas online or you have a musical instrument in mind you can check private reserve guitars at musiciansfriend.com for the best list of musical items. As for the big kids at home, hubby and I decided to just give them cash to buy what they want for Christmas.

Have a blessed and meaningful Christmas everyone — from my family to yours!
