Three Years Ago

This was a requirement submitted by N in one of her high school subjects. She is in second year college now. Part of the article reveals the beginning of her fascination and passion for art.

How were you 3 years ago?

Three years ago, I had just entered high school. I was a first year student who was still adjusting to a different environment. For some, first year high school was an unforgettable experience, because it was the beginning of a new chapter in life. But I didn’t feel that way. I didn’t really feel different, like I’d changed or something. I was still the quiet girl who enjoys studying, well except for Math. I have to say that the most memorable thing that I’d done was when I discovered what I wanted to do with my life, when I discovered my passion. When I picked up my pencil and started drawing, I instantly knew. Something sparked inside me that wanted to explore and improve this newfound passion. So every day, after school, I would just draw and practice techniques but I still did not neglect my studies and only practiced after doing my assignments or reviewing for quizzes.

As a student, I’m not the most exceptional but I strive to have good grades or even high grades so I can be eligible enough to earn a place in the top ten Achievers. During the first monthly exams, I got sick and wasn’t able to take it. After recovering, even though I did not have the time to study enough, I still took my exams. I did okay except for Math. Well, truthfully, I did not get my results in Math but I had a feeling. When it was time for our first periodical exam, I studied really hard, because I had a lot to make up if I wanted to have good grades. From then on, I focused on my studies and eventually, I earned the 4th position in the list of achievers.

During my first year of high school, I met a new classmate who then became a dear friend of mine. I took an instant liking to her because she was cool and we had similarities especially when it comes to our hobbies. I thought it was great that she became friends with my best friend as well.

Now, as I’m writing this and trying to recall stuff, I just realized that our field trip that we had that year was the second most fun and memorable of the field trips that I had (The first one would be during the 5th grade when we visited a planetarium in a science center). It was pretty special day for me at the time, because it was the first time that my mother did not chaperon me in a field trip. It felt good just being by myself and not being accompanied by someone. I got to experience different rides that I know my mother would’ve restricted me to.

In terms of my attitude, I don’t think that I changed much..

Flashback Friday: Artistic children

Just a little nostalgic today.

I miss the days when my kids were in elementary school. At their young age, they already know what their interests are. They both love to draw and paint.

Both are teenagers now. My eldest is a freshman digital arts student. The younger one is in Grade VIII. Here’s some old photos of their drawings and painting which I’m reposting for Flashback Friday.
