Life is difficult

This couldn’t be any truer. I remember this line from “The Road Less Traveled” by Scott Peck. I read that book 11 years ago, and that line has just stuck to me like bubble gum on a shoe.

Life truly is difficult. It is riddled with trials and suffering. That’s not the end and be all, though. The author goes on to say that, yes, life is difficult, but once we learn to accept this fact, life no longer becomes as difficult. When we realize that life is full of hardships, we then have more realistic expectations of people and life events, so we end up less disappointed when things don’t go our way.

The difficulty lies not in a particular life event itself, but in the way we react to it. Our perception, if you may. Difficulty then, is gauged by our tolerance to suffering and pain.

Embrace life, for all its trials and tribulations. Accept that life is not perfect. We will end up happier that way.
