Photohunt #4: Painted

Human canvass

It’s Saturday and its Photohunt day. I don’t have any picture in mind that would match this week’s theme (painted) except the snapshot of this man whose back is adorned with tattoo.

The tattoed man is actually an inmate at the Maximum Security Compound of the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City. The other man holding a pen-like object was his fellow inmate, who is a known tattoo artist at the same tightly-guarded area. The object is an improvised handmade tattooing tool covered with thick layers of thread.

This picture had been used to support the banner story published by People’s Tonight sometime in October 2004. The news feature focused on the susceptibility of inmates to blood-borne diseases such as hepatitis B, which is transmitted from having unprotected sex, sharing drug needles, and getting a tattoo or body piercing with dirty needles and tools.

Some authorities interviewed for the story would not admit the incidence rate of hepa B cases (if there are), but confirmed the existence of sharing of drug needles, unprotected sex with different (women) visitors, and unhygienic use of tattooing devices.

Coincidentally, there are a couple of Hong Kong movies entitled “Painted Skin”, so when I read the Photo Hunt’s “painted” theme, that was what came to mind. Still, wasn’t expecting to actually see examples of painted skin on the Photo Hunt. Guess I was proved wrong there! ;b

Ytsl, am thinking of posting some drawings (of my kids) painted with watercolor, but i would like my entry to be different. So I posted the tattooed man here. Also, i would like to share some (already known) info on the dangers of tattooing using unhygienic devices. Well, just a reminder on my part. Thanks for the comment. πŸ™‚

I have had a tattoo [one small one] on my ankle for a long while…but, I wouldn’t want all that art work all over my body. Nor any disease from needles.

My ‘PAINTED’ is posted now. Hope you can join me at my blog today sometime. Have a great weekend.

Ouchhh tatoo! Am cringing to imagine the pain. I know that’s painful as how others describe it. But great entry for the theme. πŸ™‚

i think tatoo is fine, as long as it is one of those cute butterflies or winnie the pooh, but the big ones like snake or dragon is quite scray for me!

Hi utotmopink. I wish to leave a message on your site but couldn’t find (again) your comment box or even your chatbox. Anyway, I find your flower painting as very unassuming, that’s why you were given a high mark by your professor for that design. Thanks for sharing. πŸ™‚

hi, have seen a lot of people who use their body as tattoo canvass. in fact i have a little one, decided to have it back in college days. i still love it but i advice people not to have one unless you really like it, plus make sure the artist use new needles. also names are a no-no, even for husbands and wives. who knows, you might end up separated….. πŸ™
