Tips to Protect Our Bones Through Proper Food Intake

It is a normal fact of life: as you grow older, your bones are going to become thinner and they would start to become brittle. You need to consume the right food products to ensure that you will be able to protect your bones effectively. If you do not do this, you will become more prone to injury.

You are what you eat. If you eat the right food products, you are not only going to improve the quality of your bones, you are also going to improve your overall body health. Here are some tips to remember to improve overall bone health:

You can find calcium in dairy products but if you are lactose intolerant, you can also find calcium in some types of fish such as salmon and sardines. You can also get calcium from rich, leafy greens. Consuming yogurt is also ideal especially if you are going to eat a cup every day because this also contains probiotics that can aid the body in releasing toxins that may weaken the bones and the body overall.

Here are some other tips to remember so you can effectively protect your bones:

  1. Get more Vitamin D. This is a type of Vitamin that you can only get from the sun. You have to get adequate sun exposure by going out of your house before 10 AM. 15 minutes of sun exposure every day will be enough to provide you with the proper amount of Vitamin D.
  2. Try exercises that will compress your bones. Are you familiar with compression exercises? You can try running, jogging, aerobics, and even dance. There are also some types of sports that will make your bones compress effectively. If you already have some bone problems, chiropractors may recommend specific treatments in order to improve your overall bone health.
  3. Stop smoking. Smoking is known to be bad for the body overall but even though people are aware of this, they still continue smoking because they cannot break the habit anymore. You can always try to stop little by little until you do not want to smoke anymore.

Take a look at your present diet. Are you eating the right food products? Make some changes little by little and you will start reaping the rewards by having healthy bones.
