Pabasa

Just a few blocks away from where I live, I heard a group singing Pasyon. The younger generation may not be aware of what Pasyon or Pabasa is all about. It is the Lenten tradition of singing the life, passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

The Pasyon singers usually use microphones and speakers to amplify their voices. Modern chanters use devices to enhance the quality of their voices. For me, whatever device they use to sing Pasyon is acceptable as long as they clearly convey the meaning of what they sing that is the life and passion of Christ.

Easter cantata

I don’t possess a beautiful singing voice but God made me experience to be a part of a Church choir when I was much younger. It was during those days that I was able to join one of the choir’s big performances they call Easter Cantata. The real singers in the group who really hit the high notes sung so well. Those who performed solo have a piano or a guitar for accompaniment. Easter cantata was memorable to me as I was able to serve God through those inspirational songs (despite the absence of a good singing voice).
