A Lesson in Patience

Good things come to those who wait. Patience is a virtue. You can never run out of adages on patience, but they don’t really mean anything until you’ve put it to the test.

I had a lesson in patience today. As usual, I was cruising- ok, speeding- down the roads this afternoon when I felt my blood boil and my insides curdle. The usual bane of the road, jeepney drivers, were trying my patience. It just really gets on my nerves when they cut me off, or when they drop passengers off right smack in the middle of the road. They definitely need to learn a thing or two about discipline when driving.

When I got home, I simply realized that it wasn’t worth it. The physical manifestations of stress brought about by ignorant jeepney drivers just was not worth it. Who was at the losing end? I was. I was the one whose palms were all cold and clammy from the surge in my blood pressure. I made a silent vow to myself to be more patient when driving, and to just accept those jeepney drivers for what they are. From now on, I’m going to be as cool as a cucumber when I’m behind the wheel.
