Pieta

A Franceso Riccardo Monti sculpture at the National Museum.

Located on the ground floor of the National Museum of Fine Arts (Old Legislative Building), visitors can view a Pieta by Italian sculptor Francesco Riccardo Monti (1888-1958) who lived and worked in the Philippines from 1930 to 1958.

The Pieta, probably made in 1946 of concrete polychrome, features a mannerist style that became predominant in Italy after Renaissance in the 16th century. It is characterized by “elongated forms, spiral angles, twisting poses, and aloof subject gazes”, according to rad.edu. Monti was commissioned to create this for a funerary chapel, which may have inspired him to depart briefly from his remarkable Art Deco style.

Catalina Realty, Inc., through artist Phyllis Zaballero, donated Monti’s Pieta to the National Museum in 2013.

Memories

I feel sad looking at this photograph of myself taken at the Newport Performing Arts Theater, Resorts World Manila four years ago. I was searching for a previous article about Guitar Center, mackie profx8 when I chanced upon this picture on the blog archive. It is sad because of the incident that happened a few days ago in Resorts World. (You can read about it in the news). The kids and I were just lucky to receive some free tickets for the show that took place in Resorts World.

(Taking photographs with flash is not allowed inside the theater thus the blurry and dark photo, which, by the way was taken by my son.)

Using her new laptop. Thanks to her cousin for the credit card. 😀

Daughter is kind of excited to share her little space at the office where she is taking up her second internship. This is where she spends time, eight hours at the most, doing all her designs for the online counterpart of a popular girl magazine.
